Project background:

There was an assumption that everyone hired at the company was familiar with the Long Term Care(LTC) industry, therefore industry jargon was commonly used at company meetings and events. We found that this often left new hires who didn't have a background in LTC at a loss because they didn't fully understand the topic, conversation, and expectations.  The goal was to educate new hires on the industry and provide a list of commonly used acronyms.

Constraints:

Identifying when and how often the acronyms are used depending on departments. The same acronyms can have different meanings depending on the department.

My Role:

Rather than handing out a sheet of acronyms. I created a short course in Captivate using a real life scenario from a new hire’s experience attending their first company meeting. The real life experience will help with retention and instead of adding tests to the course which would only demonstrate short term knowledge retention, I added a resource document that can be printed or stored as a soft copy when needed. Memorization was not the goal. Knowing where to locate answers was the goal.
